ATENEO DECLARES UNIVERSITY HOLIDAY ON JAN. 23

/ 14 January 2023

THE ATENEO de Manila University has declared January 23 as a holiday to celebrate its achievements in international rankings.

In a memorandum, Ateneo President Fr. Roberto Yap said the holiday also recognizes the students’ performance in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines events and World Universities Debating Championships.

“I am declaring Monday, 23 January 2023 as a University Holiday. Classes (Basic Education, Loyola Schools, Professional Schools) and offices will resume operations on 24 January 2023,” Yap said.

“Let us rejoice and thank God for these many achievements and may it inspire us to use our talents as a force for good in the world,” he added.

In October 2022, Times Higher Education World University Ranking named ADMU as the top education institution in the country for 2023.

Landing on the 351-400 rank bracket, ADMU had an overall score of 45.0-46.9 based on five pillars — teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Similarly, the university was cited as the top Philippine University in THE Impact Rankings.

Meanwhile, BS Applied Mathematics students David Africa and Tobi Leung made history when they became the first Filipino team to win in the World Universities Debating Championship held in Madrid, Spain.
