ATENEO ACCEPTS APPLICATIONS FOR KOREAN STUDIES GRADUATE AWARDS
THE KOREAN Studies Program of the Ateneo de Manila University is now accepting applications for its 2023 Graduate Research and Publication Awards.
The program, funded by the Academy of Korean Studies, aims to support interdisciplinary and critical research by Filipino scholars on a Korea-related topic.
It also seeks to promote Korean Studies that are anchored on Filipino scholarship. Ateneo said that a research grant of up to $1,200 (subject to tax) will be provided to each selected awardee.
“The exact grant amount will be decided based on KSP’s evaluation parameters, such as research scope,” the school said.
“The selected awardees are required to develop an article and submit it to a reputable local or international journal within a year after the grant is awarded or on or before 31 May 2024,” it said.
“They are also encouraged to present their work at a relevant local or international conference and have the option of working with a faculty member from the Ateneo de Manila University for research mentoring and co-authorship,” it added.
To qualify for the program, an applicant must be a Filipino citizen.
He/ she must also be MA/PhD student enrolled in any university in the Philippines, who is writing a thesis/dissertation covering any of the following themes:
• Philippines-Korea relations
• Korean migration and mobilities
• Korean youth
• Korean popular culture
• Korean language
• Korean Studies within the context of the Philippines and Southeast Asia
The required documents must be submitted by the applicant on or before May 15, 2023:

• letter of recommendation from thesis/dissertation supervisor;
• updated CV and copy of student ID;
• two-page research overview Title, Introduction, Review of Literature, Methods, Budget, and Timeline; and
• research abstract of 250 words.
“Selected grantees will be contacted on or before May 23, 2023. Awarding will be done online on May 31, 2023. Awardees are required to attend the online event,” Ateneo said.
