/ 1 May 2026

SENATOR Camille Villar has filed a measure seeking to integrate digital skills and technology-related courses into the country’s educational curriculum.

Villar’s Senate Bill No. 1754, or the proposed Digital Skills and Technology Education Act, aims to require the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to update existing curricula across basic, tertiary, and technical-vocational education.

The measure proposes the inclusion of courses such as coding and programming, digital marketing, data analytics, web and mobile app development, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, digital multimedia and design, and digital entrepreneurship.

Villar emphasized that the rapid pace of technological advancement makes it essential to equip students with relevant digital competencies to keep up with the demands of the modern world.

She added that the bill aims to enhance the competitiveness of Filipino graduates in both local and global job markets, while also addressing the growing need for digital skills to support the country’s economic development.
