CMU CLARIFIES GRADUATION FEES, SAYS COSTS STUDENT-APPROVED

/ 29 April 2026

CITY of Malabon University (CMU) has issued a statement addressing concerns over graduation-related fees for the Class of 2026, emphasizing that the expenses were proposed and approved by the students themselves.

According to the university administration, the fees were initially raised by representatives of the graduating class during a student meeting. The proposal was later reviewed by a committee and formalized through a resolution endorsed by the students.

“To ensure transparency, the University Administration would like to emphasize that these expenses were discussed and agreed upon collectively by the graduating students,” the statement read.

CMU also released a breakdown of the costs, noting that major graduation expenses—including the venue, baccalaureate mass, recognition rites, and use of the sablay—will be covered by the City Government of Malabon and provided free of charge.

However, optional items such as graduation photos (₱750) and the yearbook (₱2,300) will be paid for by students who choose to avail of them.

The university underscored that the free services are funded by the local government, highlighting its continued support for graduating students.

The clarification comes amid online concerns about graduation fees, with CMU reiterating its commitment to transparency and coordination with the student body.

“CMU remains committed to supporting its graduating students while maintaining accountability and transparency in all graduation-related activities,” the university said.
