UP’S ROY LAUDIT CLINCHES MEN’S 5,000M GOLD IN UAAP SEASON 88 ATHLETICS

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines standout Roy Laudit captured the men’s 5,000-meter gold on Saturday night at the UAAP Season 88 athletics meet held at the New Clark City Sports Hub in Capas, Tarlac.
Laudit finished the race in 15:23.30, edging out National University’s Noli Torre, who clocked 15:29.84, and Rico Jay Patanao, who crossed the line at 15:36.12. NU teammates Renz Cruz and Rabhy Seno placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
The strong showing helped National University surge to the top of the men’s division leaderboard with 198.5 points, overtaking Far Eastern University (FEU), which now holds 167 points. UP follows with 132 points, Ateneo de Manila University has 84, University of the East 53, Adamson University 52, and De La Salle University 45.
“The team’s goal comes first. I didn’t want to let our coach down, so I gave everything to earn points for the team,” said Torre, a recent transfer from Jose Rizal University.
In the men’s 1,500m race, Torre finished second in 4:00.02, while Patanao placed third at 4:00.18, trailing FEU’s Alfrence Braza, the reigning MVP, who clocked 3:58.04.
FEU also dominated the men’s 5,000m race walk with Carlos De Imus and claimed the 4x100m relay title through Pacifico Tolentino, Joseph Antiola III, Joshua Bercasio, and Andres Womack.
UP added two more golds courtesy of Ranier Sobrepeña in the long jump and Season 85–86 MVP Alhryan Labita in the 400m, while University of Santo Tomas’ John Allen Butiong took the javelin throw.
In the women’s division, FEU leads with 246.5 points following victories in the 10,000m (Edna Magtubo) and 1,500m (Susan Ramadan). UST is second with 213 points, buoyed by Azaneth Serat in the 3,000m race walk and Ma. Khrizzie Ruzol in the pole vault. UP, with 156 points, earned gold through Chrizzel Lanipa in the discus throw.
De La Salle University, the Season 86 champion, ranks fourth with 149.75 points after wins in the 400m by Lea Ordinario and the 4x100m relay featuring Hannah Delotavo, Trixie Dela Torre, Erica Ruto, and Abcd Agamanos. UE is fifth with 121.75 points, followed by Adamson (63), NU (41.5), and Ateneo (15).
