GENERALS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS AFTER EASING PAST PIRATES
EMILIO Aguinaldo College barged right back into the win column of the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament when it defeated Lyceum, 84-75, at San Juan Arena on Saturday.
The Generals have now won three of their last four games to rise to a 4-4 record in Group B of the competition.
“I told them as soon as JRU won yesterday, that we need to win also kasi sa may bracket namin almost every team has four wins above already,” coach Jerson Cabiltes said, pertaining to the Heavy Bombers’ nail-biting 66-63 win over Mapua on Friday.
“We need to keep winning, hopefully this win helps us get a winning streak in the next few games.”
EAC barely led the Pirates, 62-61, at the end of the third period.
The Generals, however, would go on a fourth quarter-opening 17-2 run capped off by an Aldeo Lucero jumper at the 5:06 mark of the period to give them a 79-63 lead heading forward.
That proved to be enough cushion for the Generals to send Lyceum skidding to a 1-6 losing record in Group A.
Nico Quinal was the high-point man for EAC with 18 points while Jaerolan Omandac scored 17 in the win. Lucero and Jude Bagay also helped the cause with 14 and 10 markers, respectively.
Renz Villegas turned in an all-around game of 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Lyceum loss. The troika of John Barba, Jonathan Daileg and Joshua Moralejo finished with 16 points each but to no avail.
