MOTIVATED MARK GOJO CRUZ PACES ALTAS PAST BLAZERS
PERPETUAL Help turned to Mark Gojo Cruz to deliver the goods in the Altas’ 75-73 win over the College of St. Benilde in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Saturday.
Deliver Gojo Cruz did, as he pushed Perpetual Help to its third straight win, steering the squad to a 7-1 record in Group A.
“Ineenjoy ko lang din kasi may konting gigil talaga, e. ‘Di pa ‘ko nananlo sa Benilde sa college career ko. Nakakadagdag motivation ‘yon para sa’kin,” he said.
“Sabi ko na lang talaga, magstep-up ako kasi lagi sinasabi sa’kin na magtakeover ako pag fourth quarter na.”
Gojo Cruz finished with 19 points but none more important than the one he had in the dying seconds of the game.
In the 2:23 mark of the fourth quarter, Ian Torres sank a triple for Benilde to bring the Blazers to a 73-all deadlock with the Altas.
Gojo Cruz showed why he was the Perps’ go-to guy after sinking a heavily contested layup with 58 ticks left to put the Altas up for good. He also finished with six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Helping the former NCAA juniors standout for Perpetual Help was Josiah Alcantara, who finished with 12 points in the dub.
Allen Liwag’s double-double performance of 21 points and 11 rebounds wasn’t enough as the Blazers faltered to a 4-3 record in Group B. Torres also converted 17 to his name but to no avail.
