COMELEC PUSHES SWIFT DISTRIBUTION OF TEACHERS’ ELECTION HONORARIA
COMMISSION on Elections Chairman George Erwin Garcia is urging the immediate release of honoraria to teachers who served during the recently concluded National and Local Elections, with the goal of completing payouts within 10 days.
Garcia said local election boards have already been instructed to expedite payment to teachers who served as members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).
“In accordance with the law, election honoraria must be distributed within 15 days after election day,” Garcia said. “We’re pushing to do it faster. We owe it to our teachers who rendered an important public service.”
He cited Region 3 as a model, where 100% of payments have been completed, while Region 5 is close behind with 95% of honoraria already distributed.
Earlier, the Department of Budget and Management approved a ₱2,000 increase in BEI honoraria compared to the 2022 Presidential elections—recognition of teachers’ vital role and sacrifices during the polls.
COMELEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all election workers, especially educators, are fairly and promptly compensated for their contributions to democratic governance.
