THE DEPARTMENT of Education and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology have signed a partnership to improve educational access for Persons Deprived of Liberty.

Both agencies are committed to advancing the well-being and educational rights of PDLs, recognizing education as a vital component of rehabilitation and reintegration.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara praised BJMP for its dedication to providing education to PDLs.

“Saludo po kami sa inyong pang-unawa at suporta sa kahalagahan ng edukasyon bilang bahagi ng rehabilitasyon ng ating mga kababayan. Together, we’re not just giving education; we are providing hope, dignity, and a brighter future,” Angara said.

Angara noted that, on average, about 20,000 PDLs have enrolled in the Alternative Learning System over the past three years.

“Through this MOA, we are reinforcing our commitment to leave no one behind. With your help, we reaffirm that every Filipino, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to learn and grow,” he added.
