Tamaraws lands former Letran Squire standout Joshua Ramirez
From committing to Letran, de-committing and transferring to La Salle, and de-committing again, Joshua Ramirez finally settled with FEU Tamaraws for good.
“We feel that he is a big addition to our program especially now that [Ken] Tuffin and [Rey] Bienes will play out their last year,” said coach Olsen Racela after confirming the commitment of former Letran Squire key player on Wednesday.
“Joshua spreads the floor like the two. He is a big wing and can play the four. I think he will have an immediate impact in our program,” Racela added.
The 6-foot-4 winger initially committed to stay in Intramuros with the Knights, but it didn’t go according to the plan and eventually had a change of heart last February and tied up with the Taft-based squad.
However, due to the entry of La Salle’s new recruits, Ramirez decided to leave the Green Archers and reroute to Morayta.
Coach Racela ensured that FEU did its homework to clear things up with La Salle first before enrolling Ramirez.
“Before we recruited him, we talked to coaches from La Salle and cleared everything. Ayaw naman namin na may maapakan kami. So, we cleared everything with the coaches of La Salle. And he did not enroll naman sa kanila making him eligible for Season 83,” said Racela.
The sharpshooter proved his potency in his final season with Letran, putting up averages of 13.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.
Ramirez was also a part of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth pool that saw action in the FIBA U19 World Cup in Greece in 2019. He also played for Gilas Youth in the 2018 FIBA U18 Asian Championships in Bangkok.
The Letran High product, who is eligible for UAAP Season 83, joins Ximone Sandagon as the key recruits of FEU during the off-season.
