A SUSPECTED love triangle is being considered by authorities as the cause behind the shooting incident at Guimaras State University last week.

In a statement, GSU said that a 22-year-old from Negros Occidental is the suspect, who assailed two individuals – a female student of the university and a choreographer of the event, during the Palayag Festival 2024.

“The suspect is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the female student. Both victims are currently receiving medical attention at Western Visayas Medical Center. We are unable to comment on their condition at this time but are closely monitoring the situation,” GSU said.

“Despite our robust security measures, this tragic incident was a well-planned act, as evidenced by the suspect’s admission of hiring a boat from Pulupandan specifically for this crime. In light of this, we are thoroughly reviewing and reinforcing our security protocols to prevent any such occurrences in the future,” it added.

GSU also said that the university has extended assistance to the victims and their families and is in close coordination with the police for the investigation.

The university also said that it would provide counseling and support to affected individuals and asked for prayers for the victims.
