/ 5 July 2023

SENATE President Juan Miguel Zubiri on Tuesday said that they will meet with the executive department and the House of Representatives leadership to discuss measures that will be deemed as priority in the 2nd regular session of the 19th Congress.

Zubiri said among bills discussed to be prioritized is the Mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps or ROTC.

Also included in the priority list are the National Disease Prevention Management Authority; Internet Transactions Act; Amendments to the BOT Law/Public Private Partnership; Revitalizing the Salt Industry; Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers; Local Government Unit Income Classification; Ease of Paying Taxes; and the Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System bill.

Zubiri said that some bills which are not yet among the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council’s priorities but would be proposed for inclusion are the Philippine Defense Industry Development Act or Self-Reliant Defense Posture; bill seeking Amendments to the AFP Modernization Law; the Tatak Pinoy bill and the Blue Economy bill.

“These are just some of the bills to be proposed as priority measures,” he said.

The ROTC bill and the proposed Internet Transactions Act have been approved in the committee level and have been sponsored in the Senate plenary.
