Fil-Can Brendon Ocampo dawns the red and white for NCAA 96

San Beda Red Lions has acquired another guard to its roster as it announced that Fil-Canadian Brendon Ocampo will be wearing the red and white jersey for NCAA Season 96.

Ocampo was the second San Beda recruit after the recent announcement of former NU Bulldog JV Gallego’s transfer.

It was confirmed by Red Lions Team Manager Jude Roque saying “They have enrolled a few days ago,” referring to the two.

Durham Crossover’s Ocampo was a product from the same program from the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) that co-Red Lion, James Canlas, was part of.

“Brendon is the best here in his age group—a very versatile player that can slash and shoot. He plays with a lot of heart and has always been a gritty player,” Durham Head Coach Mike Cruz said.

The 18-year-old slasher averaged 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds during the 2019 Chooks-to-Go NBTC National Finals.

Moreover, he is eligible to play for NCAA Season 96 unlike Gallego to sit out for a year before hitting the basketball court.

According to Roque, since Ocampo and Canlas share a similar background being both half Filipinos from Toronto, he is hoping that the latter will start leading his younger teammates and become a role model for the new recruit.

“We placed him sa San Beda para mamentor ni James Canlas,” Cruz shared.

The 5-foot-11 guard is being compared to Robert Bolick as Roque is seeing the same passion and the potential he has to offer.

“I see him as a young Robert Bolick because his passion reminds me of Robert. I do hope he becomes like Robert.”
