PETRO GAZZ STUNS BALIPURE, REGISTERS FIRST WIN
The Petro Gazz Angels began their 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference stint with a four-set win against BaliPure Water Defenders, 25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, at the Paco Arena on Thursday.
Gretchcel Soltones led the attack for the Petro Gazz with a triple-double of 12 points, 14 digs, and 11 receptions, while Remy Palma scored 12 markers.
Newly acquired Angels Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and MJ Philips shone on their debut chipping in 10 and 12 points, respectively.
Petro Gazz got off to a good start, taking a two-set lead, however, BaliPure threw their defense off balance to take the third in their comeback attempt.
On the fourth set, the Angels opened the set with a 17-14 lead, however, Soltones widened the gap into a commanding 20-14 advantage after scoring three straight service aces.
Petro Gazz extended their lead to 23-17, but BaliPure scored four of the next five points, three of which came as a result of PetroGazz’s errors.
Maizo-Pontillas ended the game after firing the match-clinching hit as the Angels overcame a nervy finish.
Janine Marciano led BaliPure with 19 points on 15 kills, three blocks, and an ace, while Geneveve Casugod got 11 points from blocks.
