DEPED, DUMAGUETE CITY INK PARTNERSHIP TO HOST 2022 ASEAN SCHOOL GAMES
The Department of Education and local government of Dumaguete City has inked a partnership to host the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) School Games.
Last year, the games were canceled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
The event will bring together around 5,000 student-athletes, team officials, and other delegates from 10 different countries.
The Asean School Games is an annual sporting event that promotes young solidarity through school sports and allows them to engage in cultural exchange.
The city administration of Dumaguete, on the other hand, must provide the provision of playing venues, lodging, transportation, meals (including halal for Muslim delegates), liaison officers, Covid19 health and safety interventions, quarantine facilities, and Covid19 testing kits.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones assured the safety of the delegates.
“We will proceed with the games. Then, the plans should always be considered. We will adjust accordingly based on the current health situation,” Briones said.
