Among those who commented were Alaska’s forward Vic Manuel saying the players should be grateful for the support the school has given them, “Nung college ako halos kulang talaga kami sa food at allowance, maganda na nga suporta ng school n’yo nagrereklamo pa kayo sa pagkain, kung naranasan ‘nyo lang hirap ko at ibang college players dati.”

“Hindi puwedeng sarap agad kailangan mo paghirapan yan,” he added.

Former Far Eastern University stalwart and PBA, Asean Basketball League (ABL), and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) veteran Leo Avenido also took a trip down to memory lane, “Galunggong kanin toyo lang  tapos ate padagdag sabaw solve na!”. 

Adamson University standouts Terra Firma Dyip and Eric James Camson joined the food wars recalling the food they used to eat back in college, “Kame nga isang lucky me at itlog lang noon nung nasa Adamson kami ayos na! aarte nyo,” Camson posted.

While San Miguel Beermen shooting guard Ronald Tubid criticized the Growling Tigers saying they might not make it in the industry.

“‘Di tatagal ang mga yan pag ‘di mag bago ng style hehehe puro kanin sabaw ulam umabot din PBA hahaha ate 20 kanin po at ‘pede sabaw lang hehehe dinner hanggang breakfast na,” Tubid commented.

Former Letran Knights now San Miguel Kings rookie, Jerick Balanza, also shared his own hurdles that he had to face during his collegiate career, “SKL. Kinukuha ko pa libreng meal ko sa letran para pakain ko sa buong pamilya ko (kasagsagan ng walang trabaho tatay ko simula magulang ko hanggang anak ko) walang angal angal kahit mamantika o hindi masarap basta libre at may makakain. However, the multi-titled NCAA Season 94 finals MVP now Rain or Shine Elasto Painters forward Javee Mocon pleads to everyone to focus on the real issue which is the quarantine protocol violations.

“No offense to these guys but please don’t make the players look bad. They were mistreated, yun  yung puno’t dulo. I understand where they are coming from and I salute you for what you’ve gone through and in a way, I’ve experienced that. But if they can provide better food then why not? They expected more, they deserved better.”

The former San Beda star commended those who were able to overcome such challenges but reminds everyone to remain on track, “May iba-iba tayong path na dadaanan, it’s inspiring na ibang tao mas mahirap at the same time maaapreciate natin yung growth ng basketball sa Pilipinas. Also, di yun yung isyu,”

While retired PBA player Willie Wilson agreed with Mocon in a tweet saying, “It kind of turned into a contest on who had the most difficult path to success, instead of on the issue that these young men shouldn’t have been placed in that position in the first place.”
