THE FIRST farm school of the Department of Education in Antique had so far attracted 61 students, officials said.

Evelyn Remo, DepEd Antique School Governance and Operations Division chief, said the students are from Aningalan Central School and the nearby villages of San Remigio town.

“The students will be in their Grade 7 by this coming school year. Officials expect more learners to be interested in the farm school, which is open to accepting enrollees outside Aningalan,” Remo said.

“The school will offer regular subjects such as Math and Science but agriculture courses such as planting of high-value crops and marketing of products will be added,” she added.

San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said the local government allocated P300,000 for the project.

“This coming school opening, the students enrolled at the farm school will initially have their classes at the Aningalan Central School, but the LGU will be putting up a farm school eventually,” he said.

“Students if taught to produce agricultural products could already earn income even while in school,” he added.
