TO INCULCATE public service among the youth and train possible civil servants, Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte filed a measure that seeks to institutionalize the implementation of the Government Internship Program.

In pushing for House Bill 8183 or the proposed Government Internship Program Act, Villafuerte aims to help nurture the youth and allow them to experience being a public servant.

“By institutionalizing programs like GIP, we move closer to achieving present that is optimistic and bright for the next generations,” he said in his explanatory note.

House Bill 8183 provides for the guidelines and mechanism of recruitment for the internship program as well as the terms of compensation of the interns.

“In helping our youth for this goal of serving the nation, we must involve them in the process of running a country that will hence be theirs to build,” Villafuerte said.

The bill provides a wider training and development opportunities for the youth geared towards acquisition and application of knowledge and skills.

The internship period will be at least three to six months and during the program, interns shall be provided with a stipend amounting to 75 percent of the existing rate and shall be non-taxable.

After career coaching, the institution shall assess and determine whether a GIP graduate is ready to be placed for contractual or regular work.
