LAWMAKERS WANT TESDA CENTERS IN PALAWAN
THREE lawmakers in Palawan filed a measure seeking the establishment of seven Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Training centers in their province.
House Bill 3226 or the proposed Palawan Provincial TESDA Training and Assessment Centers Act was filed by Representatives Gil Acosta, Franz Alvarez and Cyrille Abueg-Zadivar.
“The establishment of accessible, high quality, and efficient technical education and skills development centers in the province of Palawan shall be beneficial not only to Grade 11 and 12 students, to the out-of-school youth, high school students and graduates, unemployed and underemployed adults, workers in the informal sector, persons with disabilities and ethnic indigenous people, and residents from low-income families,” the lawmakers said in their explanatory note.
House Bill 3226 aims to equip citizens with basic practical knowledge and technical expertise in their desired area of competency.
Under the bill, TESDA Training and Assessment Centers will be established in the City of Puerto Princesa, and in the municipalities of Coron, Cuyo, Roxas, San Vicente, Sofronio Espanola and Quezon.
These centers shall train local residents in 24 island localites in Palawan to make them globaly competitive and meet the manpower placement demands of local and international labor markets.
They will also offer relevant teachers’ training and curriculum design assistance on the technical-vocational livelihood track under the K-to-12 Program.
