EDUCATION Secretary Leonor Briones drew flak from netizens for saying that children are more likely to contract Covid19 at home than in school.

“Lahat ng pag-aaral ay nagpapakita na ang lowest threat ay sa school. Ang malaking posibilidad ay sa homes kasi that is where they spend most of their time,” Briones said in a news briefing on December 16.

She did not disclose what studies she was referring to.

Netizens disputed Briones’ statement and called for her resignation.

“Show the studies!” one netizen said.

“Will you risk your child’s health? Remember that C19 is very much here and there’s no vaccine yet. In other countries, they went back to homeschooling because the students got their c19 at school,” one said.

“There’s no safer place than home. At home, the interaction is only within the family,” another added.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes in low-risk areas on January 11-18, 2021.
