UP CLINCHES BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES AFTER OUTLASTING FEU IN FIVE SETS
University of the Philippines (UP) got two consecutive wins after a five-set marathon over Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-12, 25-22, 24-26, 27-29, 15-11, Saturday in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Fighting Maroons were already ahead and enjoyed a 2-0 set advantage over the Lady Tamaraws. But FEU turned the tables around in the third quarter with a 22-17 lead in favor of UP, the former thrived and surged for a 9-2 rally with Chenie Tagaod on the lead, giving the Lady Tamaraws the third set, 1-2.
FEU continued their perseverance in the fourth frame to tie the set score, 2-2, but UP already had enough as Alyssa Bertolano saved the team as she scored for a kill to put them at match point, 14-10.
Tagaod’s successful block to Bertolano earned FEU one point, 11-14, but it was no longer enough as UP secured the victory thanks to Bertolano’s combination play.
