The 6-man grappling youth team took home three silver and six bronze medals to round out their campaign on a high note.

Gabriel del Rosario won silver in both the gi and no-gi 46kgs events, while David Zaldarriaga took silver in the no-gi and bronze in the gi in the 42kgs category.

Alonso Lucas Aguilar and Joaquin Antonio Marte captured bronze medals in both the gi and no-gi events in the Cadets 50kgs and 58kgs categories, respectively.

Moreover, Fierre Afan bagged his bronze in the 85kgs gi event.

“Everyone under the sun wanted us to forget this dream. So many people thought I was absolutely crazy for ‘risking’ their lives travelling and competing with this pandemic ongoing. When I witnessed the Olympics live and firsthand, this only validated what I knew had to be done. All of these athletes stuck to their dreams and didn’t let anything get in their way. They were doing exactly everything what we were doing,” wrote Wrestling Association of the Philippines president Alvin Aguilar on Facebook.

Russia led the medal count in the championship, with Kazakhstan coming in second place.
