The Hanoi Sea Games was initially planned to commence on Nov. 21 to Dec. 2 this year but had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 spike in Vietnam.

In an online meeting with the SEA Games Federation, Vietnam, and Cambodia organizers agreed that the former will host the 31 SEAG, and the latter will host the 32nd SEAG on May 05,  2023.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino confirmed the news after the said meeting and the participating 11 nations in the SEA Games.

“Cambodia will host the 32nd edition in 2023 and they want to have at least a year’s window for them to prepare,” Tolentino said.

Although the dates and hosting countries have been finalized, Vietnam organizers are still to announce the exact dates in May 2022 the SEAG will open.

“The Vietnamese organizers will confirm the specific dates soon,” Tolentino said

As a reigning overall SEA Games champion, Tolentino shared that the POC sent a total of 626 athletes from 39 sports to represent the country in the upcoming SEAG.

Since the planned opening ceremony falls three days after the national elections on May 9, 2022, the Philippine delegation would travel to Vietnam in batches according to the event timetable.
