UAAP PLANS TO RETURN IN 2022 WITH ‘DIFFERENT SCENARIOS’ FOR SPORTS

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is planning to stage the most-awaited Season 84 with three sports to hold ‘at the very least.’

“The UAAP has been working with the Commission on Higher Education, the Philippine Sports Commission, the Games and Amusement Board and the Department of Health in coming up with a return to training protocol,” said league executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag.

“The UAAP has a moral obligation to fulfill this need… You also look at (champion golfer) Yuka Saso. These are young people na talagang nae-excite ang tao. It gives the nation something to be excited about, to inspire us, to give us something positive,” he added.

But right now, the league is still planning how to handle all sports and call this ‘an ideal world’ listing three sports to be present at Season 84.

“[Pero] kung talagang magkakagipitan, we have different scenarios. At the very least, certain events must push through. We’re looking at, again, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, cheerdance, and the opening ceremonies,” Saguisag explained.

“We’re not saying na yan lang ang gagawin, but kailangan at the very least ito sana maconduct na namin.”

Nevertheless, Atty. Saguisag assured that protocols have already been planned out as teams’ training is set to happen in the first month of 2022.

Nakalatag na iyun, with the protocols. And now, you can add the vaccine requirements. And whatever we come up with, it’s going to be stringent,” he propounded.

“We can probably have this in separate schools, if you look at the environment and the recent success of Gilas Pilipinas.”
