RK ILAGAN COMES BIG WITH A CLUTCH THREE POINTER TO GIVE CONVERGE THE WIN OVER MAGNOLIA
Rk Ilagan clutched a three-point shot to give Converge its first PBA win in franchise history against Magnolia, 89-82, yesterday in the Philippine Cup.
Ilagan made the dagger in the last quarter with his cold-blooded three to tie the game at 82 followed by Magnolia’s failure to cap the win with 3.6 seconds left that pushed for overtime.
This is not the first time that RK sank a heart-stopping shot as he also did back on February 26 in the PBA Season 46 Governors’ Cup for the win of Alaska Aces over Meralco Bolts with his crossover move and then fade away for the buzzer-beater shot.
“Nagkataon lang po. Siguro naisip ko rin po ‘yung against Meralco, so dagdag confidence po sa akin,” said Ilagan, who FiberXers Jeff Cariaso chose to give the ball for the OT- sending shot.
Converge easily took control of the overtime with Ilagan’s three from the corner followed by Maverick Ahanmisi’s bucket leaving Magnolia scoreless, 87-82.
With less than two minutes left in the shot clock, the rookie Justin Arana and “The Beast” Calvin Abueva of Magnolia face off as Arana successfully spins around Abueva and shoots for two, 89-82.
One minute and 47 seconds tick left yet Magnolia failed to retaliate and stayed at 82 where Converge left them in the fourth quarter and gave away the win to Converge.
