The formal departure was discussed in a meeting between the HD spikers and the PSL, Monday.

It was then announced by the PSL’s chairman Philip Ella “Popoy” Juico that they were notified by Cignal of their PVL transfer as well its confirmation of the league finding a broadcasting partner, GMA, during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday.

“Yesterday, we have been told with very little notice that just like with PLDT that Cignal is joining the other league. We have no other sensible reason to stay in TV5. We have to adjust to the reality of the situation, ” Juico said.

“We’re starting anew as of today because we’re starting negotiations with GMA7 as our new TV partner,” he added.

This comes after the pro-transitioned league Premier Volleyball League, which is the PSL’s rival, acquired broadcasting rights with Cignal TV last February 4.

PLDT was first to announce that it will be transferring to PVL and Juico then revealed on Tuesday that the Cignal Spikers will be moving to the other league as well.

The Cignal HD was one of the founding members of PSL since 2013, which they have grabbed one championship (2017 Invitational), three second-place awards, and three bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the PSL is still waiting for the green light from the Inter-Agency Task Force and has decided to halt from its starting date, March 15, which is also favored by the teams as well.

“For the coming indoor season, which was supposed to start on March 15, it was moved back upon the request of the teams. They need more time to practice and that will give us more time to finish our presentations with GMA,” Juico averred.
