PH MALDITAS GRABS THIRD PLACE AFTER LOSING TO KOREA IN WOMEN’S ASIA CUP
The Philippine women's football team ended its historic run in the Women’s Asia Cup by snatching 3rd place after bowing down to Korea, 0-2.
“It was a very tough match. Obviously, I said yesterday, Korea will probably be the better team,” coach Alen Stajcic said.
“We hoped to be able to put pressure in the scoreboard but that didn’t happen. Korea obviously dominated and had more chances. We had five or six half-chances.”
Cho So-Hyun of Korea kicked the first goal followed by Son Hwa-Yeon’s 35th-minute point-blank goal off a short cross.
The Lady Booters were not able to keep at par for staying scoreless, but coach Alen affirmed that the team did not give up.
“But the best part about today is that the players, after 120 minutes the other night [against Taiwan], they fought right to the death. It’s an amazing amount of heart, courage, and spirit in this group,” coach Alen explained.
“I know I’m proud of them. I know the whole coaching staff are all proud. I think all the people back home in the Philippines should be so proud of this group. They’ve come such a long way in such a short space of time,” he added.
But more importantly, the Philippines will see action in the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year in Australia and New Zealand.
