PH BOXING BETS CRUISE TO ASIAN ELITE SEMIS

Olympic-bound Marcial slipped past Mongolia’s Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene in their quarterfinals match in the middleweight (75kg) division via forfeiture en route to the semifinals round.

Byamba-Erdene pulled out of their match as he suffered a shoulder injury during his preliminary round victory over Iraqi Ridha Talib Jabbar.

Middleweight No. 1 seed Marcial will face Jafarov Saidjamshid of Uzbekistan in the next round and is already guaranteed a bronze medal despite not having fought yet.

Also assured of at least bronze medals are Light-flyweight Durens, bantamweight Ogayre and light-flyweight Gabuco.

Durens will compete against Daniyal Sabit of Kazakhstan, while Ogayre will face top seed Mirazizbek Mirzahalilov of Uzbekistan.

Former World champion Gabuco, who advanced straight to the medal round, will fight Gulasal Sultonalieva of Uzbekistan for her first match.

The other half of the eight-man Philippine contingent—lightweight Jare Samuel Dela Cruz, flyweight Marvin Tabamo, lightweight Maricel Dela Torre, and light-welterweight John Paul Panuayan—already bowed out of the competition as they fell short to make it to the medal race cut.
