NO PVL FOR NOW FOR DZI GERVACIO AS SHE FOCUSES ON PH BEACH VOLLEY TEAM

Angeline "Dzi" Gervacio will not be seeing action for the Perlas Spikers in the upcoming maiden pro season of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) as she will commit full-time on the national beach volleyball team.

Gervacio will be reuniting with the SiPons tandem, Sisi Rondina and Bernadette Pons, alongside Dij Rodriguez.

The quartet was part of the historic bronze finish of the Philippine team in the beach volleyball event of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2005.

With the biennial meet in Hanoi closing in later this year, the former Ateneo standout will be skipping her stint with Perlas Spikers and giving up the prospect of leading the team in the loaded PVL Conference.

She had a stellar performance during the 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference capturing the Best Opposite Spiker plum.

Similar to Gervacio, SiPons had also announced last month that they will also focus on the national beach volleyball team and will not be playing for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the PVL.

The tandem might find it difficult to shift from indoor court to the sands in a short period of time, Beach Volleyball Republic President Charo Soriano said in an interview with CNN.

Aside from capturing the bronze medal in the SEA Games, the tandem made a quarter-final finish during the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball Boracay Open.
