The lone five-time UAAP MVP lands in Bahrain to become the first Filipino volleyball player to compete in the top division Bahrain Volleyball League with Bani Jamra.

The National team mainstay announced his departure Thursday, November 5, in a social media post.

“TYL,” Espejo wrote on his Instagram stories post, accompanied by a plane ticket to Bahrain.

Following his international career, this will be Espejo’s third overseas act after suiting up with Oita Miyoshi in Japan V.League in 2019 and Visakha in Thailand League beginning of this year that ended quickly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cignal HD Spikers and Bani Jamra confirmed the 23-year-old spikers transfer to Bahrain in an announcement.

“Marck Espejo is set to play for Bahrain Volleyball League club Bani Jamra as their reinforcement in the 2020-21 Bahrain Volleyball League! Good luck and see you soon Marck!,” through the Cignal HD Spiker Facebook page.

Espejo has high hopes to mark a record in a gulf area. “Itong league siguro sobrang mag-boost ng career ko ito if mag-boom ako doon. Kasi gulf area magandang exposure yon para sa akin,” he said in an interview with SPIN.ph.

The 6-foot-2 wing spiker Espejo will join the turf as Bani Jamra import in an eight-team First Division League on Sunday. He will be joining Al Muharraq, Al Ahly, Al Najma, Dar Kulaib, Al Nasr, Al Busaiteen, and A’ali in the team.

Before bringing his talents to Bahrain, Espejo bagged the historic silver medal finish along with the Philippines Men’s Volleyball team in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

He also gained two championship titles with Cignal HD Spikers in the Spikers’ Turf Reinforced and Open Conferences last year.
