THE MAPUA University Cardinals outlasted the Arellano University Chiefs, 88-81, during Wednesday’s NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball game at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.

Clint Escarmis led the Cardinals with a crucial 12-point contribution in the fourth quarter, including two key triples, to secure their sixth win of the season.

Escarmis, the reigning MVP, finished with 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals. “I’m grateful to the coaches for trusting me despite my earlier misses. I’m glad I could deliver when it mattered most,” said Escarmis.

Other contributors included Chris Hubilla, who also scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Mar Cuenco added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Cardinals held a slim 41-37 lead at halftime but fell behind 51-54 at the end of the third quarter before rallying to victory.

The Chiefs’ standout performances came from Lorenz Capulong with 19 points and six rebounds, Renzo Abiera with 18 points, including four triples, and Jerico Camay who added 11 points. Despite their efforts, the Chiefs now sit tied at the bottom with a 2-6 record, alongside San Sebastian College.

In another game, Lyceum of the Philippines University narrowly defeated the University of Perpetual Help, 64-62. Renz Villegas led the Pirates with 18 points, while Neil Moralejo hit a decisive three-pointer in the final five seconds, improving both teams’ records to 4-4.

With this win, the Cardinals stay firmly in second place behind College of Saint Benilde (6-1).
