MANILA — The National University Women’s Chess team won a silver medal in their final match for chess competition on Sunday (19 Nov 2023) at the FEU Tech Gym.

The scores that led the team to its stirring win were from the sterling efforts of each player led by Woman FIDE Master Allaney Doroy who won a silver medal in Board 1, Jesca Docena’s bronze medal in Board 3, Natasja Balabo who won silver in Board 4, and Jelaince Adriane’s gold in Board 5.

The team finished and secured an average score of 17.2 [28.5] during the competition, enough to secure the silver medal for the university.

Meanwhile, NU Nazareth’s high school women’s chess team also secured the silver medal in the girl’s division of the competition after garnering an average of 12.0 [22.0].

One of the team’s players, Sara Dalagan, clinched the Rookie of the Year Award after achieving the silver medal in Board 2.

Furthermore, other team members also contributed to the team’s success such as Woman National Master Lexie Hernandez who won a silver medal in Board 1, Heart Padilla garnered gold in Board 4, Yana De Vera won a silver in Board 5, and Joella Conjurado who won bronze in Board 6.
