FILIPINO PAIRS TO FACE IN MEN’S DOUBLES TENNIS SEAG FINAL
Filipino pairs Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon, and Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales will compete in the tennis men’s doubles gold medal match in the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) at the Hanaka Sports and Service Center.
Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon defeated Quoc Khanh Le and Van Phuong Nguyen, 6-4, 6-2, while Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales defeated Linh Giang Trinh and Minh Tuan Pham, 6-4, 6-2, to set up a gold medal match.
Alcantara and Patrombon crashed M. Krusling and Samneang Long of Cambodia, 6-2, 6-1, before trouncing third-seed Christopher Rungkat and Rifki Fitriadi of Indonesia, 6-1, 7-5.
As the gold medal match is slated for Saturday, the all-Filipino pairs have made one of the books records as they already face in the 2019 SEAG finals at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center with Alcantara and Patrombon winning, 7-6 (6-2), 7-5, and all are veterans of the Davis Cup.
This time around, Huey and Gonzales will have to prove what they are capable of and what they have learned since then as they will face the Alcantara-Patrombon tandem on Saturday at 10 a.m. (11 a.m. Philippine time).
“I’m so happy to be back in the finals,” Alcantara said. “I am very contented na because we got the silver and gold for the Philippines.”
“It’s going to be a fun match tomorrow. Win or lose, we got the gold,” Alcantara said.
