EJ Obiena lands a podium finish in Poznan meet
Days after his victory at Ostrava Golden Spike last Wednesday, EJ Obiena claimed the bronze medal at the 2020 Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poznan, Poland, yesterday (Philippine time).
Despite struggling at the Golecin Stadium, Obiena finished with a respectable 5.52 meters to land him a spot at the podium to tie for the third with USA’s Matt Ludwig.
The 24-year-old cleared the bar on his first attempt at 5.37 taking the lead with Ludwig. While Poland’s Robert Sobera and Netherland’s Menno Vloon both cleared the height on their second try.
Sobera then breezed to the top after taking 5.52 meters on his first attempt to tie with fellow Polish Piotr Lisek.
Lisek finished the competition with 5.72 that broke the deadlock with Sobera to claim the gold medal while the latter took the silver after his fewer attempts at 5.52.
The Tokyo Olympics-bound Filipino is still on the search for a breakthrough personal mark this season after coming up with 5.74 meters three days ago in the Czech city.
His Olympic qualifying mark of 5.81 remains the benchmark as of recent.
