CHOCO MUCHO BOUNCES BACK WITH A FOUR-SET WIN AGAINST PETRO GAZZ
Choco Mucho is set for semifinal appearance after trouncing Petro Gazz under four sets, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Barra, Ilocos Norte bubble on Friday afternoon.
The Flying Titans redeemed themselves after a five-set loss to Creamline as they book a semis ticket and ensured themselves the second spot after their win against the Angels.
Maddie Madayag had 14 points and six blocks, balanced with Ponggay Gaston’s 14 points, Kat Tolentino added 13 points and 20 outstanding digs, Regine Arocha had 13 points, while Bea De Leon added 10 markers.
Also, the team’s defense-offense system was fully guided by Deanna Wong’s 26 excellent sets and nine points, and Denden Lazaro-Revilla’s 21 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.
The Flying Titans had a great start at the first frame with a 4-0 lead after a back-to-back attack from Gaston, kill block from Tolentino and Madayag, and even if Petro Gazz tried to outperform the blockers, Choco Mucho still had the control, 16-12 lead at midframe, and easily ended the set with a 5-point lead.
The Angels did not give up and took over the second set taking the upper hand at the early frame with a 4-1 lead until a tie score of 10-all.
Even though Choco Mucho was at 16-15 lead at midframe, the Angels offered a closed-knit game and ended the second set with a 25-23 lead in favor of Petro Gazz.
After trading sets in the first and second frames, the Flying Titans got the 2-1 set lead as Gaston ended the third set from her tip-over, with a 4-point lead.
At the fourth set, Choco Mucho did not let a trading-set win happen for the Angels and regardless of the 1-4 lead at the early frame, they race to a tie-score of 11-all, then 18-all, and even at 23-all.
However, Arocha needed to step out of the game due to muscle cramps but still, Choco won following back-to-back service and attack errors from Angels.
“Both teams played well, yun lang naman. Yung mga players ko played well also, we thank the Lord for the strength and buti no major injuries,” said Flying Titans head coach Oliver Almadro.
