CARLO BIADO CLINCHES 2021 US OPEN POOL CHAMPIONSHIP
Filipino pool player Carlo Biado ruled the US Open Pool Championship after defeating Singapore's Aloysius Yapp, 13-8, on Sunday at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City in New Jersey.
Biado trailed Yapp by five points, 3-8, before completing a come-from-behind victory by snagging the next ten racks.
“I am lost for words. I feel grateful to be in the final and all the fans have been awesome so thank you. I know I can do it; I am coming back stronger next year,” Biado said.
“I am very happy because this event is one of my dreams. I dedicate this to my family and to my baby. Thank you to all of you even during the pandemic you’re still here watching around the world,” he added.
The 37-year-old will receive a $50,000 (approximately P2.5 million) winner’s check as well as a prestigious title.
He will be joining Efren “Bata” Reyes on the list of Filipino titleholders of the tournament.
Biado booked his spot in the finals after conquering Naoyuki Oi of Japan, 11-9, in the semifinals.
Dennis Orcollon, a fellow Filipino, was defeated by Yapp, 11-6, to miss out on an all-Filipino finals showdown.
Orcollon had a seven-match winning streak before exiting the competition.
