After officially ending her Wimbledon stint, tennis ace player Alex Eala just needs one day to leave behind her exit before going back on the courts once again in Milan.

The third-ranked Filipino netter suffered a shocking defeat against Junior World no. 27 Ane Mintegi Del Olmo of Spain, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, in the second round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships girls’ singles tournament at the All England Club, Thursday evening.

Eala was off to a strong start claiming the opening salvo, but this Del Olmo regained her pace back that made her trail to a 4-0 in the second set.

This was stopped by Eala and even tied the knot at 4-4 but the Spaniard broke Eala’s serve and pushed the set to a decider with back-to-back games.

It was a struggle for Eala as she needed to catch up with Del Olmo from 3-0 but eventually, the Spaniard took the match.

Meanwhile, in the doubles event, Filipina ace and partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho failed in claiming their second grand slam title as partners after falling short to Swiss Chelsea Fontenel and Ashlyn Krueger of USA, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, on Friday morning (Philippine Time), in London.

Fontenel and Krueger dominated the first set but the Asian pair quickly bounced back in the following set, tying at 4-4, before they won two consecutive games 9 and 10 to force a tiebreak.

Come the third salvo, the match had seen a back and forth between both teams until the Swiss and American were able to pull off at 11-9, to defeat Eala and Nugroho in the match that lasted one hour and 36 minutes.

After bowing out in her first grass-court Grand Slam, the 16-year-old Eala is still off for her third title hunt in the next Grand Slam event after her 2020 Australian Open title with Nugroho and most recently, her 2021 French Open title with Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva.
