SC HOLDS FIRST-EVER MODEL SUPREME COURT FOR SHS STUDENTS
THE SUPREME Court conducted its first-ever Model Supreme Court (Model SC), allowing students to experience firsthand how oral arguments are conducted, how Court decisions are deliberated, and how rulings are communicated to the public.
The Model SC Culminating Activity was held on July 13 at the SC Session Hall.
Inspired by the Model United Nations, the Model SC is an educational simulation patterned after the processes and functions of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Organized by the SC Office of the Spokesperson, with the support of the Department of Education (DepEd), the program provided students with a unique opportunity to learn how the Judiciary resolves significant legal and constitutional issues—not merely as observers, but as active participants.
The simulated case focused on freedom of expression in the online sphere, a timely and relevant issue affecting young people today.
In the fictional case, petitioner Andrea “Andi” Cruz faced disciplinary sanctions after posting a video criticizing several school policies on her personal social media account.
Cruz elevated the case to the Supreme Court, arguing that the sanctions imposed on her constituted an unconstitutional restriction on student expression, particularly for speech made outside the school campus and through personal social media platforms.
The kickoff program was held on June 22, 2026, where the case problem was introduced along with the 21 Manila Science High School students selected to take on various roles as SC Justices, counsels for the petitioner and respondents, amici curiae (friends of the Court), members of the SC Spokesperson team, and members of the media.
