ALEX EALA BEATS HK’S ADITHYA KARUNARATNE, CLINCHES 1ST WOMEN’S PRO FINALS
Filipina teen tennis star Alex Eala dominated Hong Kong’s Adithya Karunaratne, 6-3, 6-4, to secure her maiden pro-career finals ticket in the W15 Manacor ITF Pro Tournament by the Rafael Nadal Academy.
Despite facing much older opponents, Eala continues to leave good impressions in the women’s circuit as she nailed her first professional tournament this year.
The rampaging Filipina tennis ace defeated Karunaratne in the semifinals of her year-opening women’s pro event held in Manacor, Spain.
Boosted by three straight victories in the earlier matches, the Filipina tennis ace sustained her excellent form with a leading opening set win before splashing cold water on Karunaratne’s fiery campaign in the second frame to secure the massive semifinals victory.
Karunaratne is ranked at No. 785 in Singles while Eala, who only became pro last year, is at No. 1,651.
“Sweet 15! At just 15 years old, Alex has qualified for her first ITF finals. Great game!,” posted the Spanish legend Nadal’s academy, where Eala trains and studies as a scholar.
The 15-year-old Eala will be facing Spaniard Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers in the finals following its victory against Leolia Jeanjean of France, 6-4, 6-2.
Cavalle-Reimers is 13 years older than the Filipina tennis star and has bagged a total of 6 titles in her pro tennis career.
