WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR 2021: WHY AND HOW TO END IT

/ 30 June 2021

Since The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002, it became mandatory for us to annually raise awareness on the particular issue.

According to researches, 48 percent of all victims of child labor are aged 5-11 years. And 1 in 10 children are forced to work. And an estimate of 22,000 children are killed at work every year. The International Labour Organization (ILO) also states that, “In its most extreme forms, child labour involves children being enslaved, separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and illnesses and/or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities – often at a very early age. Whether or not particular forms of ‘work’ can be called ‘child labour’ depends on the child’s age, the type and hours of work performed, the conditions under which it is performed and the objectives pursued by individual countries.”

So, what can we do to help eliminate and end child labor?

  1. Be aware of this issue.
  2. Educate other people about the harms of child labour.
  3. Donate or volunteer to any protests and/or charities that are related to this matter.
  4. Buy products and food that don’t involve child labour.
  5. Don’t hire underage children.

We are in need to give a helping hand and hear the terrors of the children being used. Children and their lost childhood. Children who didn’t even experience being a child. They are victims and they are screaming for help. Raise awareness and together we will help end child labour.
