Netflix became one of the mainstream platforms during this time of the pandemic. It still is. For us students, we often stay at our homes to keep ourselves safe. Thus, we were able to realize and discover a lot of things as we get to know ourselves more. As for me, I witnessed how I got immersed in various movies and series. As the stories go, I was witnessing a rollercoaster. The show made me feel anxious, betrayed, happy, thankful, and many other emotions that I never knew I had inside me. It also opened a lot of realizations in my life and how grateful I should be for its gift. The show became my ultimate favorite and somehow, I found myself finishing a whole season for a day in a single sitting. Want to know what it is? I am sure that you’re able to get a glimpse of it or heard its name on social media. It’s one of the most popular series made in the field of medicine – Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s Anatomy premiered on the 27th day of March 2005. It is an American medical drama television series with 17 seasons and is soon to be added by another season on the 30th day of September 2021. It is a fictional series that was brought into existence in the hope to show the world the sacrifices and importance of professionals in the medical field. It focuses on various careers, but it mainly highlights the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings, as they develop their careers into becoming seasoned doctors.

“Don’t let fear keep you quiet. You have a voice to use it. Speak up. Raise your hands. Shout your answers. Make yourself heard. Whatever it takes, just find your voice, and when they do, fill the silence.”, said Meredith Grey who is portrayed by actress Ellen Pompeo.

The exceptional casting and plot of the story were not the only criteria that made the series the longest-running scripted primetime show. It also tackles different social issues in our society and how the people should treat them by addressing what it is about and enlightening those who do not know, for it to be solved, and to call the attention of others to make everything right.

While watching it, you will understand why people go through what they go through. It’ll make you enter different situations like mental health problems, domestic abuse, abortion, alcoholism, and many others. The series will become a chapter in your life where you get to see the reality of our world, just on the screen of your phone.

The series is also recommended for those who are aspiring to enter the realm of medicine, in any aspect. No work is easy, but it surely is worth it. As Derek Sheperd says before he starts his surgeries, “It’s a great day to change lives”. Doctors are unsung heroes and deserve to be recognized every single way. Behind them are strong individuals who continue to do their work despite the challenges they face.

As the 18th season comes close to its release, the fans are more than thrilled and excited to know what it has to offer. Series in the medical field may not be your cup of tea, but once you start with Grey’s Anatomy, you can’t stop. It’s better late than never.
