SCHOOL IN NORTHERN SAMAR CONTINUES ‘PROJECT SAKAY NA’
TO PROVIDE livelihood to parents of some students who are most in need, a school in Northern Samar continues to implement its ‘Project SAKAY NA’.
Teachers at the San Roque Central Elementary School distributed five pedicabs that their recipients can use to earn a living.
The project was launched to provide livelihood to the parents of selected pupils at risk of dropping out so that they can continue their learning.
The Support Option for Basic Education, STRIVE 2 program funded Project SAKAY NA with P60,000 when it was first rolled out in 2009, with a P5,000 counterpart from the local government unit.
The project works on the principle of “Rent to Own,” with a minimal fee collected from customers. The proceeds are utilized to fund or support the school’s various programs and projects.
The San Roque Central Elementary School has already distributed 70 pedicabs.
