VOLUNTEER Lumad teacher Chad Booc was killed in an encounter between soldiers and communist rebels.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito of the 10th Infantry Division said that Booc was identified along with four others in Davao de Oro on Thursday.

Another volunteer teacher was also killed —Jojarain Alce Nguho III of the Community Technical College of Southern Mindanao.

According to the military, Booc’s body was identified by a former rebel after the encounter.

Several months ago, Booc gained popularity on social media after he was detained on charges that he trained child warriors of the New People’s Army at the University of San Carlos Talamban campus in Cebu.

He was released after three month’s after the court dismissed the charges.
