LEYTE COLLEGE STUDENTS GET INTERNET ALLOWANCE

/ 23 October 2020

COLLEGE students in Blumentritt Village in Alangalang, Leyte will receive a one-time internet allowance of P1,500 from their local youth council.

Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Jan Reian Niño Saavedra said the the cash assistance will be given to 10 recipients this week. Another batch of 10 students will receive theirs next month.

“This is a priority project as access to online tools and sufficient internet connectivity remains a big challenge for most under the new normal. We have no other qualifications, indigent or not, as long as college students will receive the load assistance,” Saavedra said.

The council, he added, plans to expand the program to also include senior high school students.

“Just imagine how much these students spend on internet connection to attend virtual classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Considering our situation today, it is important that we help ease their burden in whatever ways possible,” he said.

The SK council also donated reams of bond paper to eight schools in the area and bought 52 boxes of vitamin C to be distributed to around 200 families in the village.
