DOST-CAMIGUIN PROVIDES FRESH MILK TO LEARNERS

/ 26 September 2021

THE DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology in Camiguin has provided fresh milk to at least 2,777 learners in the province.

The milk came from the local dairy-processing plant co-managed by the local government and the DOST.

Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said that the agency and Camiguin teamed up to produce milk for undernourished children.

“DOST-Camiguin and the provincial local government partner are now producing nutritious milk for undernourished children as they jointly put up a dairy processing plant that has a total dairy production of 80 to 100 liters a day,” he said.

De la Peña shared that the dairy plant has 20 milking cows that produces four to six liters of milk a day.

“The milk produced in the facility is bought in bulk by the Department of Education to be distributed to the undernourished children from all parts of the island,” he added.

The fresh milk will be distributed alongside self-learning modules for students.
