DENR TAPS STUDENT AND TEACHERS TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENT IN SOUTH COTABATO
THE DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 12 enlisted the help of teachers and students in promoting the environment in South Cotabato.
Atty. Felix Alicer, DENR-Region 12 executive director, said a partnership was forged with the Department of Education to engage the youth in protecting and conserving the environment.
Alicer said the collaboration is in line with the DENR’s ambassador project called “Tayo Ang Kalikasan.”
“It is important that at a young age, our students be made aware of the environmental conditions that we are facing,” Alicer said.
“We will be closely coordinating with DepEd in providing technical support and training to help our ENR ambassadors,” he added.
Under the program, learners will help promote activities on biodiversity protection and conservation, solid waste management and climate change adaptation and mitigation through various online or internet-based platforms.
To do this, Alicer said the agency donated 50 units of pocket Wi-Fi.
“The pocket Wi-Fi will be used by these students in the conduct of their ENR advocacy campaigns,” he said, noting that the Wi-Fi devices will be given to 25 youth ambassadors and the 25 others to their teacher-advisers.
OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ruth Estacio extended her gratitude to the DENR.
“This project will support DepEd’s massive campaign on digitization and online distance learning. With the help of these Pocket Wi-Fis, our students can have virtual interaction with their teachers and do their research,” Estacio said.
