CBSUA, NAGA LGU TIE UP TO DEVELOP ZERO-WASTE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY

/ 9 April 2021

TO FURTHER improve garbage disposal, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Pili, Camarines Sur and the local government unit of Naga City will develop a zero-waste management technology.

Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion and CBSUA President Alberto Naperi signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the project.

Aside from providing livelihood opportunities, the project will create engagement in collecting, sorting and cleaning plastic waste and other resources, Legacion said.

“Once ready, the method will be implemented at the sanitary landfill in Barangay San Isidro in Naga City which is being run by the LGU through its Solid Waste Management Office,” he added.

Naperi, on the other hand, said they will introduce the principle of circular economy.

“It is a system which is aimed at eliminating waste through continual use of resources that promote reuse, sharing, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling thereby minimizes the use of resource inputs and the creation of waste, pollution and carbon emissions,” Naperi said.

“The circular economy aims to keep products, equipment, and infrastructure in use for a longer time, thus improving the productivity of these resources,” he added.

Under the agreement, CBSUA will consult with the SWMO to identify concerns and come up with corresponding solutions so that the zero-waste goal will be achieved.

The university will also conduct research to provide technical assistance to SWMO, including the utilization of its extension and internship programs to achieve the purpose.

It will also conduct joint research activities with the city government in the field of agriculture and allied courses.

The Naga LGU will provide CBSUA the necessary assistance in gathering data relevant to the projects and make research facilities available for use, among others.
