CASIGURAN Mayor Edwin ‘Boboy’ Hamor suspended classes because of the phreatic eruption of Bulusan Volcano.

Hamor also suspended all activities in public and private schools.

“The LGU and the public are reminded that the entry into the 4-km radius PDZ (permanent danger zone) on the southeast sector must be prohibited due to the increased possibilities of sudden and hazardous phreatic eruption that can occur without warming,” the mayor said.

Sorsogon School Division Superintendent Jose Doncillo said there are 17 schools near the PDZ in the municipalities of Barcelona, Bulusan, Casiguran, Irosin and Juban.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned that the volcano continues to erupt.

“Bulusan Volcano has remained restive as degassing from its summit vents continues. Steam-laden plumes have been generated with periods of profuse volume and sporadic ashing that began on Monday,” it said.
