In Bokod campus, the DICT installed free wireless internet access points at the Technological Building, Student Lounge/ Office of Student Affairs, Library and Industrial Arts Building.

Th department said it will also install free internet at BSU’s Bugias campus soon.

The DICT aims to enhance internet accessibility for Filipinos by providing free internet access in public places including national and local government offices, public schools, State Universities and Colleges, government hospitals, rural health units, public parks, plazas and public libraries, among others.

“Connectivity for state university and colleges is a big boost for the education sector in this time of coronavirus pandemic wherein online learning and communication are essential in the blended learning system,” it said.

“In March 2020, the DICT Luzon 1 Cluster connected the University of the Philippines-Baguio in the Free Wi-Fi for All program and it was a big help for the students who were stranded during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine last year,” it added.

DICT Luzon Cluster 1 Director Engineer Leo Ugto said that connectivity is no longer a need but a human right, especially in this time of pandemic.

“With strengthened partnership with stakeholders, we are hastening the roll-out of free Wi-Fi services in public places in the Cordillera despite challenges in topography. DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for all program can help bolster educational, economic and social opportunities, so we can rise from the effects of the pandemic,” Ugto said.
