YOUTH URGED TO JOIN CALLS ON FOOD SECURITY, SAFETY

/ 13 August 2021

VARIOUS youth groups urged young people to help bring public attention to the problems face by the agriculture sector.

The College Editors Guild of the Philippines said the only way to address food insecurity is to distribute land to the farmers.

To do that, the Guild said student journalists must continue writing about the concerns of the agricultural sector.

“Amid the worsening global health crisis that the world is experiencing today, campus journalists shall always write about the true condition of our society,” the group said during the celebration of International Youth Day.

“CEGP calls on all campus publications across the country to cover the plight of the basic sectors and to report the fascist attacks of the current administration, support the plight and struggle of all basic sectors, and mobilize alongside them to uphold their democratic rights and demands,” it added.

The University of the Philippines’ OIKOS, an environmental academic organization in the College of Human Ecology, also encouraged the youth to promote innovations in food security.

“We all play an important role in fostering change, stirring initiatives, creating innovations, and engaging in societal issues. We encourage everyone to create ripples of small changes through their own actions,” it said.

The University of the East-University Student Council emphasized the youth’s role in safeguarding human life and environment for the next generations.

“As leaders of tomorrow, a more inclusive society is needed to revitalize the planet. A step in the right direction is innovating the current food systems to ensure the food on our table is safe from diseases and clear of harmful farming practices,” UE-USC said.

“In coordination with the government and through meaningful engagement, when turned into a global effort, the youth will become a compelling force not only in transforming how we live, but also how political mechanisms work in addressing prevalent challenges around the world. So, let’s keep working!” it added.
